Where is all the Good Music?

Where is all the Good Music?

Music has been a symbol of culture since its very creation. It is an expression of the human spirit in times of struggle, triumph, freedom and rebellion. We have made great strides through the ages but many feel that we have regressed musically over the past decade or so. The soulfulness and creative expression has seemingly been drowned out by computer generated instrumentals and synthesized vocals. In what seems now to be the dark ages of sound, there stands one screaming question… Where’s all the good music?

At the end of the day, music is subjective and it is not up to us nor anyone else to say what good music truly is. However, it is hard to dispute that the art of the band has been somewhat pushed aside in mainstream media. Sure, it’s catchy and fun to listen to but many have noticed a lack of depth a majority of modern music.

Music has always been at least partly about entertainment but for those of us who feed on the fire of the guitar, the energy of a drum set, the groovy layers of a bass guitar and the real, raw vocals of a talented singer… is there anything left for us to look forward to?

The sounds of past generations are always there for us to cherish but unfortunately, time has done what time does and put many of those bands to rest; leaving us with little to no new music to look forward to. Sure, it takes hard work to make modern music as well and as musicians ourselves here at Bellworks we know just how challenging making music can be. Many of today’s most talented artists take inspiration from those who came before them but it still seems few and far between. However, just because they aren’t topping the charts in terms of popularity doesn’t mean they aren’t out there. Supporting your local music scene can be a great way to help new bands gain traction. Not sure what to do this weekend? Grab your friends and go find a random band performing in your area. Like them? Send us a message and get them featured in a new article!

We know that it can be complicated being a music fan in this generation. With many of us young adults growing up on our parents’ music taste, it’s hard to not miss that nostalgic feeling. Although it’s sad to see those bands fade out of view, it’s necessary in order to make room for something new. Great music is all around us and if you look hard enough, you’ll surely find it. But hey if you feel that you still can’t, what’s stopping you from starting a band of your own? Be the change you want to see in the world.

Sure you could say we’re stuck in the past, But we’d argue that we’re just trying to change the present. All that aside, remember, think freely, live boldly, and dare to be an outsider.
